Growing up in a large family that enjoyed and embraced music on a daily basis, it was almost inevitable that Paul would become the singer that he is today.
Being only 21, it may seem unlikely that Paul should be such a big fan of Free's music and able to sing it with the soul and passion it deserves.
However, the 'pop' music that was churned out in the 1990's never really caught his attention (him and us both! -Ed.), so he looked towrds his family, with their diverse musical preferences, to find some 'real' music. This was how he came to discover his love for Free.
"I remember when I first heard them, I think I was around 6. It was Fire And Water, and I couldn't decide if it was the greatest thing I'd ever heard, or the weirdest. But I distinctly remember Paul Rodgers' voice."

As Paul grew older, he chose to listen to many other varied genres. Jethro Tull, Led Zeppelin and Family were some of his favourite bands, but it was Free who eventually made the biggest impact.
At the age of sixteen, Paul formed his first band and eventually played his first live gig. The feeling of singing his favourite songs, live on stage, was enough to hook him and he knew that was what he wanted, perhaps even needed, to do. Moving on, Paul performed with several more bands before eventually forming Artisan, During his time in this band, Paul developed his considerable music writing skills and began to write and perform his own music - the only thing that has excited him as much as performing the music of Free. His own original music was enjoyed by the public and acclaimed by music critics, appealing particularly to fans of Free and similar British blues-rock bands.
When Paul was offered the vocalist position with Freeway, there was absolutely no question of whether or not he wanted to join (he did - thank goodness! - Ed.). Playing in this highly-rated tribute band seemed like the least he could do to show his love and appreciation for the band and the singer who inspired Paul so much in his musical career. And to perform with such a talented bunch of musicians as Freeway just seemed the perfect way to do it.
There is no doubt that touring with Simon Kirke has been one of the highlights of Paul's career so far - "it was an amazing experience to play with such a legendary drummer. To perform songs such as Wishing Well and All Right Now with Simon Kirke is a dream come true for any Free fan. I'm totally honoured to have had the opportunity ."
Paul's vocals and energetic stage presence accompany and compliment the amazing talents of John, Rick and Rob which together create the authentic sound and atmosphere of every Freeway show.
Paul's passion for singin and performing continue, and anyone who has seen him perform with Freeway will agree that he is a natural. He continually tries to improve and feels that he does so wtih each show, and he will sing as long as there is someone there to listen to him.
Int he words of a very wise man called Ian Anderson - "Life's A Long Song", and for Paul, the tune has only just begun.
(many thanks go to Paul's sister, Kathryn, for her invaluable help with producing this page - Ed.)
