What's New?
21 September 2009 - Got the Blues
Thanks to everyone who was at the extremely well-attended show at Blyth's Phoenix Theatre on Friday 18th. A good night was had by all! There are a couple of cracking new reviews on the 'Reviews' section of the site (sensibly!).
It is with great sadness that we announce our date at The Blues Cafe, Rotherham (24 Oct) has been cancelled due to the fact that the venue has succumbed to the clutches of the dreaded Credit Crunch. We can't express how disappointed we are to hear this news. The Blues Cafe was an absolutely brilliant little venue which had a great regular crowd who really knew their music. We last played there with Simon Kirke and Larry Oakes who loved the venue as much as we did. The venue provided Rotherham with a fab mix of top music, home-cooked food, reasonably priced beverages and good company.
Please, please, please support your local live music venues. This is happening all over the country at the moment and it's tragic. It's more important than ever to show our support for live music by getting out there and getting in to it.
14 September 2009 - The Phoenix Rises
Freeway are appearing at The Phoenix Theatre, Blyth on Friday 18th September. Tickets are priced at a very reasonable £10. If you haven't got yours yet, what are you waiting for?! Tickets are only available from the venue and there will be a small number of tickets available on the door on the night.
25 August 2009 - Rescheduled Date
Freeway's recently cancelled show at The Three Tuns has been rescheduled for Saturday 21st November. No point in wishing for any balmy Bank Holiday sunshine but it should be a very good night anyway! See you there.
24 August 2009 - Last minute Holystone gig and och-aye-the-noo extravaganza
Dear me, it's all go. Two news items in two days - whatever next?
Freeway will be appearing in yet another last-minute show at The Holystone on Sunday 30th September...we're doing it as a favour to landlords Dennis & Susan who have been rudely left-in-the-lurch by whoever was booked to play.
See you there if you can make it!!
Also - Freeway are chuffed-to-bits to have been asked to appear at the rocking Fifestock music festival in Scotland next year - provisional date is currently Thursday 11 March - confirmation to follow. This annual festival spans late February / early March annually at The Inn at Lathones (www.theinn.co.uk) and is organised and promoted by Dave Mundell (www.mundellmusic.com). Dave is still finalising the line-up for 2010, but you can check out the mundellmusic site and see the archived istings for last year's festival if you want a better idea of what goes on up there.
As soon as tickets go on sale, we'll let you know....it's a very imtimate venue and tickets will be like gold dust so you'll have to jump on 'em quick! Watch this space...!
23 August 2009 - Dates Updated
Freeway are sorry to say that their Bank Holiday show at The Three Tuns has been cancelled - by the venue, we must stress - due to unforeseen circumstances. Obviously, there is nothing we can do if the venue wishes to cancel the gig and we are very disappointed. Sorry to all of you who were planning to come. The venue have assured us that the show will be rescheduled - as soon as it is, we'll advise you of the date.
We have (somewhat spookily, I think - Ed.) been offered a last-minute cancellation date at the Board Inn in Blaydon on the Saturday of the Bank Holiday weekend (29th August) which we have accepted. Normal kick-off time of 9pm applies to this show. Come and celebrate the summer Bank Holiday with a night of live and loud music - is there anything better?! (It's a show the weather can't spoil - hurrah! - Ed.)
The band will also be appearing at T.J. Doyle's in Sunderland on Saturday 5th September - again, normal start time of 9pm applies. We're looking forward to this show as it's been a while since we've played in Sunderland - hope to see many of you Free fans there!!
04 August 2009 - Bank Holiday Date
Hi All! Freeway will be playing at The Three Tuns in Gateshead on August Bank Holiday Monday (31st). Please note the earlier-than-usual start time of 6pm. What better way to round off your bank holiday weekend?! We hope to see lots of you there.
16 July 2009 - Thanks all - plus gig news!
Thanks to everyone who attended Freeway's Customs House show on 4th July (and there were plenty of you, weren't there?! WOW!). It was a brilliant show and you were a fantastic audience.
Our next appearance will be at The Woodcutter in Hartlepool on Friday 17th July.
Freeway are to play a special Bank Holiday Monday date on August 31st at The Three Tuns, Gateshead. We'll be kicking off a little earlier than usual, folks - about 6pm - and we hope to see lots of you there.
29 June 2009 - Got Your Tickets Yet?
Greetings! Just a reminder to all Freeway fans that our show at the Customs House is on Saturday 4 July (Independence Day!). Tickets are only available from the venue and are priced at a very reasonable £11.50 (or £10.50 concessions). It's a cracking little venue, as those who attended our last show there will know. Tickets are only available from The Customs House (don't ring our ticketline - we can't sell you any!!) either via their website (www.customshouse.co.uk) or box office - 0191 454 1234. See you there!
28 June 2009 - Press Releases
Check out an exclusive interview with our very own John Buckton in the Shields Gazette on Monday 29th June! We also have articles going out in The Journal later in the week and in some of the free local weeklies. Tune in to Paddy Macdee on Radio Newcastle for all the latest Freeway info.
28 June 2009 - Bad Company Backstage Extravaganza
Our roving reporters, Bill and Jill Bradshaw, have just reported in after their full concert and backstage-pass experience at Bad Company's New York show (June 27th). As many of you will remember, they bid successfully for this amazing experience at the Annual Free Convention in April. As those of you who have been keeping up with the news and reviews (check out www.allrightnow.com) would expect, they had a totally fantastic night and spent some real quality time after the show with Simon Kirke and Paul Rodgers - we're not jealous at all, honest! The money that Bill and Jill bid for their tickets and passes went to the extremely worthy Brainwaves Appeal charity. Everyone's a winner!
15 May 2009 - Annual Free Convention Update
Hello! Thanks to everyone who attended the annual Free Convention at The Park Hotel, Tynemouth. As you all know, it's not just a great night out, it's an opportunity to raise money for a very worthy charity, the Brainwaves Appeal. The amount of money raised for the charity is an estimated £1500. This is a brilliant amount, especially in today's rocky economic climate - we know you're all a bit skint (us too!), so give yourselves a huge pat on the back for turning out and supporting both the bands and the charity.
Extra-special congratulations go to our dear friends Bill & Jill Bradshaw, who successfully bid on the backstage passes for Bad Company's New York show in June. Well done, guys!
